Toni Gonzaga: Giving-up Luis was the hardest

nlike some young actresses of today who are always rumored to be in romance with a number of male celebrities, Toni Gonzaga is different though her various leading men have been romantically linked to the 23-year-old actress-host since she transferred to ABS-CBN. These big named heartthrobs are Luis Manzano, Sam Milby and Piolo Pascual. And among the three, the hardest to turn down was Luis.
"Si Luis up until now kapag nagkakausap kami sinasabi kong na-mi-miss ko ang kakulitan nya," Toni said with a smile.
It was also Luis, during the time he was courting her, who gave her the best Valentine's Day experience by setting up a romantic dinner for two inside her dressing room. Toni said she really appreciated Luis for taking time and effort to make her happy that special night.
In fact, looking back, she admitted to having felt the same for Luis then.
"I don't know how to describe Luis. I always have no words to describe him. One word is not enough. Siguro nang bago pa lang nanliligaw si Luis for a time nararamdaman ko na I could fall in love for this guy. Kaya lang I have the tendency to control my feelings. I always control my emotions when it comes to that kasi ayaw kong ma–overwhelm sa attention sa mga "kilig-ness" and all. This is because I have my priorities set already. But I enjoyed the feeling for a while. During the time na nanliligaw siya naramdaman kong gusto ko si Luis talaga. Saka walang problema kay Luis kasi siya nga yung perfect man na hinahanap ng mga babae lahat ng mga best qualities," intimated Toni who also shared that she already knows who Luis is romantically interested in at the moment.
So what about her feelings for Sam and Piolo?
With regards to Sam Milby, she admitted to only finding him cute and having a crush on after he came out of the Pinoy Big Brother House because people really liked him. She actually felt turned-off when she saw him kiss a housemate during his stay at the PBB House and thought of him as probably being weak. "For a time I thought magiging boyfriend ko siya pero hindi rin pala,' she quipped.
Does this mean that Sam didn't complete her?
"Yes, because more energy mas happy," smiled Toni alluding to her latest product endorsement, Enervon C.
As for Piolo Pascual who was also rumored to be very close to her, she described her as, "Si Papa P, I always look up to him na parang dreamboy na dreamboy ang dating. He is someone you can't have. Parang someone na gusto mo lang titigan from afar at pangarapin. Parang bigger than life and he is too big to handle. He is such a big star to handle. He is larger than life," she exclaimed.
As for Vhong Navarro with whom she has worked with in "Wazzup, Wazzup" and in the movies, their relationship's very platonic, she said. "Si Vhong Navarro naman sa lahat siya ang masasabi kong mahal na mahal ko kasi barkada ko yan all the way. He will always be my favorite partner in movies, and TV work; he will always be my friend, companion wala na akong masasabi."
But how does she tell her suitors to stop courting her?
"Hindi ko alam basta ako I'm always friendly to everyone. I entertain them all pero ayaw kong dumating sa point na masabihang flirt ako. Ayaw kong masabihan na playgirl and that's the last thing I would like to hear na masasabi ng mga tao. Kaya I'm really, really careful with handling everything especially with guys na nali–link sa yo," replied Toni.
She added that there's really a need to tell her suitors ahead of time.
"Ayaw ko lang ng masabihang nagpapa-asa ako. Kasi kapag pinaligaw mo sila in one way or another they would always think that it would lead to somewhere mag expect na yun. Ano yun magpapaligaw ako tapos sasabihin ko ‘I'm not ready.' Pa-cute ka naman sana from the start sinabi mo ng hindi ka ready kaysa from the start nagpakahirap sila tapos sa ending ‘I'm not ready.' Baka batukan ka nila."
According to Toni, she is not pressured or bothered that she doesn't have a love life. She attributes this to getting used to having no love life ever since that she doesn't long for it. And she doesn't need to have a boyfriend to prove she's not a tomboy. Although she realized that it was boring to have no date on Valentine's Day when she was 21 years old.
When she was suggested just to court the man she likes, Toni laughed and commented, "I don't know. Pero ako kasi kapag babae nanligaw tingin ko hindi sila seseryosohin ng mga lalaki. Baka I set aside ka lang kasi ikaw ang nanghahabol."
So what could be the reason as to why she finds it hard to say "yes" to a person courting her?
"With everything I do naman kasi I think about it 100 times before I make a decision or if I do it. Pag-iisipan ko talaga kasi mahirap eh. I think too much. I always think ahead."
To those who have a crush on Toni and would like to try and win her heart, don't be intimidated by the three matinee idols who failed. For Toni, she doesn't have any physical criteria. But it would help if you're the type of man who would make her think and is the mysterious type. Of course, the usual being a gentleman, respectable, well-mannered, educated, etcetera still applies!
Presently, Toni is the latest celebrity endorser of Enervon Multivitamins. She has been chosen because she is the definition of boundless energy and zest for life according to the makers of EnervonC. She now joins the likes of Michael V., Pia Guanio, Winnie Cordero and Cesar Montano who are all still endorsers of the Multivitamins product.
She confessed that she really had a hard time doing the TV commercial but still enjoyed it. She also made fun of the fact that it was the only TV commercial where people would see her in a "grandmother-type-two-piece."
In the works for Toni after PBB is a movie project with either Piolo Pascual or Vhong Navarro. She will also launch her newest album soon.
With her latest product endorsement, all the more that we won't see Toni with a lovelife anytime soon. With more energy, mas happy, who needs a boyfriend, anyway when a relationship could also cause her sadness along the way?

Toni G says happy for Bea-Robin TV series

MANILA, Philippines – Actress-host Toni Gonzaga shared on Thursday her happiness for co-Kapamilya star Bea Alonzo, who is now set to do a television series with action star Robin Padilla.

Gonzaga spoke about the new project months after the action star cancelled a movie project with her.
"Lahat tayo talaga ay may kanya-kanyang nakalatag na proyekto it just happened na tumanggi si Robin 'yong sa akin. So, wala tayong magagawa. I think iyon yata ang gusto niya (iyong with Bea)," Gonzaga said.
Gonzaga, who never divulged the reason behind the movies cancellation, said that she is happy for Alonzo, who just finished the hit series "Magkaribal."
"I'm happy for Bea and she deserves it dahil napakahusay ni Bea and I'm sure tatangkilikin 'yon ng Kapamilya natin dahil unang tambalan nila," she said.
Gonzaga stressed that after what happened, she has no ill-feelings against Padilla, who is now married to her former showbiz friend Mariel Rodriguez.
“Matagal na kasing tapos ‘yon. Kaysa isipin ko ‘yon mas isipin ko na lang na maging grateful na lang ako dahil may bagong blessing,” Gonzaga said.
Asked if Padilla needed to apologize to her, Gonzaga replied: "Hindi na din naman ako humingi kasi okay na ako. Naiintindihan ko naman hindi na tayo bago sa industriya para magdadamdam or magulat sa mga ganyang bagay, malawak ang pang-unawa natin so, wala akong sama ng loob kay Mr. Robin Padilla."
Report has it that Rodriguez was the reason behind the movie's cancellation.
But in a previous interview, Rodriguez debunked the report. She even said that it is not fair to blame her because she has nothing to do with the supposed film.
Report also has it that Padilla’s upcoming sitcom with Rodriguez is the reason why the film was cancelled.
Gonzaga currently has an upcoming movie with box-office king John Lloyd Cruz. This is the first time Cruz and Gonzaga will team up in a movie. The film titled “My Amnesia Girl” is expected to be a box-office hit as it will showcase their unique and warm on-screen chemistry.

Toni Gonzaga chooses career over lovelife

Toni Gonzaga is in love. But not with Sam MilbyLuis ManzanoZanjoe Marudo, or the rumored politician who was allegedly hounding the TV host-singer-actress lately. Toni is very much in love with her showbiz career that being romantically involved with any guy at this point of her life is not included on her priority list.

At the press launch of Pinoy Big Brother Season 2 last Valentine's day, Toni was surprisingly dressed in a black gown. But she was quick to explain that, "Nag-usap kami nina Mariel [Rodriguez] at Bianca [Gonzales] na mag-black, kaya kahit Valentine ngayon, ‘eto naka-black kami." Toni, Mariel, and Bianca will host the second season of ABS-CBN's reality show.
Toni is still loveless. But she does not fret about it. And when asked, from the list of her suitors, why no one has captured her heart yet; Toni stated matter-of-factly, "Masyadong maiksi ang lifespan ng showbiz career ng mga artista, kaya I'm just making the most out of what I have now. Saka na siguro ‘yan. Minsan lang ang ganitong opportunity, so ‘wag na nating palampasin pa."

Who among Sam, Luis, and Zanjoe is closest to her heart?

"Cliche nang masyado ‘to, pero close ako sa kanilang lahat. We are all good friends. Wala yung ranking kung sino ang ganito o ganyan. Pantay-pantay silang lahat para sa akin," said Toni.

One reporter mentioned during the PBB press con that the reason why there is a rumor that Toni is a lesbian is probably because the TV host has not been romantically involved with any guy.

"Naku, dati na ‘yang intriga! Ayoko nang patulan," said Toni.

Another reporter retorted in jest that the suitors of Toni were rumored gays that's why they are attracted to Toni.

To this, Toni laughed and said, "Wala namang gano'n! Hindi totoo ‘yang mga ganyang intriga. In fairness, wala naman akong naamoy na may gano'n sa kanila."
Aside from Pinoy Big Brother, Toni's other TV shows are ASAP '07 on ABS-CBN and Wazzup Wazzup onStudio 23. She has also a finished a movie with Sam and Zanjoe entitled You Got Me from Star Cinema.

My Amnesia Girl: Thanks for the memory…loss

John Lloyd Cruz and Toni Gonzaga headline Star Cinema's latest rom com

I came out of Star Cinema’s latest romantic comedy My Amnesia Girl almost wishing I had amnesia myself so that I wouldn’t have to remember the movie and write about it. Alas, I saw it—and what was seen cannot be unseen. I’m being overly dramatic, I know.  This is the same way I felt after I saw Brilliante Mendoza’s award winning Kinatay, albeit for different reasons.

My Amnesia Girl opens quite promisingly with a nicely blocked sequence: the camera roams the crowded city streets filled with people going about their day. The movie’s topic is a universal favorite, but especially close to the fatalistic hearts of the contemporary Filipino audience: finding true love in a random world. Do you ever wonder about the love of your life who might be crossing the street as you don’t notice because you’re too busy watching the traffic light? (Hmmm. This is potentially tragic. Next time I will try to watch both traffic light and pedestrians although I already spend an inordinate amount of time watching people on the street, wondering about their lives.)

Anyway. An air of cuteness—mostly supplied by the lead actors who are masters at looking cute and acting cute—pervades the entire movie which is essentially about second chances at love. Director Cathy Garcia-Molina has made a career out of these love-team driven commercial box office hits, and it seems Star Cinema has another one on their hands. In this one, a typical Pinoy male named incongruously after Greek god Apollo (John Lloyd Cruz) falls in love with the quirky and adorable Irene (Toni Gonzaga). When he breaks her heart by ditching her at the altar, Apollo doesn’t expect Irene’s blank reaction when he bumps into her years later at the cold section of the supermarket, of all places. She claims not know Apollo because she suffers from amnesia. Apollo takes this as an opportunity to ingratiate himself back into the arms of the unsuspecting Irene—only to find out that she does not suffer from amnesia at all. Sounds a bit messy no?

I can say it’s honestly cute in some places and cheesy in others. The dialogue is funny in certain parts. For mainstream rom coms, we do not dare hope for some kind of deeper artistic meaning or social commentary. Folks are watching My Amnesia Girl for sheer entertainment and a few moments of escape. Never mind about the wildly uneven cinematography and the glaringly awful sound of this movie, or the terrifically long montages, or the bad wig.

Thankfully they picked Toni Gonzaga, a young star known for her gorgeous hair, great legs as well as her wit and comedic timing. Toni is a joy to watch when she’s being her endearingly kenkoy self, charming the audience with her mobile face and expressive eyes. I’ve always been a Toni fan because she’s smart, funny, and cute in a Korean pop star kind of way. Unfortunately they make all the leading ladies cry too much on screen, and Toni Gonzaga isn’t effective when she’s crying. She’s at her best when she allows the vulnerability and humor to shine through without the usual bag of tricks employed by other young actresses: histrionics, preening, overacting.  Meanwhile, John Lloyd is extremely capable as a leading man, supplying enough kilig for all the colegialas and lolas who adore him. There is an apparent fondness between these two stars and I’m looking forward to their future work, together or not. They literally saved the show.

About Toni Gonzaga

Toni Gonzaga - ProfileCelestinewas born on a Friday, January 20, 1984 and weighed in at 6.8 lbs. to proud parents Carlito and Crisanta Gonzaga. Her mom craved “santol” and “mais con hielo” during her pregnancy. The eldest child, Celestine was named after a boxer by her father.
Fondly called Tintin by her closest friends, her parents made sure that she and her younger sister, Catherine, were raised with Christian morals and values, and were conscientious to put God first in everything they did.
At the age of 4, Tintin joined various local-singing competitions in their “baranggay” in Taytay, Rizal and always won first prize. She became an instant favorite among the townsfolk. In fact, during her late uncle’s term as Mayor of Taytay, Tintin was always invited to sing in community events. When her father ran for public office, she started doing hosting stints in social events and gatherings. At a very young age, Tintin was already used to facing audiences of hundreds.
Tintin had always seen singing as a way of self-expression. At 9, her father would bring her to auditions and singing competitions. In fact, she was able get through the first round of auditions at Repertory Philippines but Baby Barredo, one of Repertory’s directors, sent her home during a rehearsal instead for some reasons. That incident didn’t stop her from pursuing her dreams. When she was 13, she managed to get into GMA’s Artist Center. Initially, she landed small roles and after 4 years, she decided to go freelance. She continued going to other auditions and competitions, as well as VTR screenings of advertising agencies – all these while she attended school.
When she reached the age of 17, she took her talent to a higher level. She tried her luck in lounge singing in hotels and bars like Calesa Bar, Hyatt Regency, Sulo Hotel, and Holiday Inn, just to name a few. She went to school in the day and did her singing engagements at night.
Fate had more in store for Tintin other than her lounge act. Her agent informed her of an audition for a TV commercial (TVC) for a popular soda brand. Luck was definitely on her side. She was chosen as the lead talent in that TVC and gained instant popularity with her famous line, “I love you Piolo!”
That TV ad sparked the fortunate series of events that marked the start of her television career. Soon, offers to do guestings in television shows came but it was her guesting in the sitcom “Daddy Di Do Du” that got her a regular stint on TV. TAPE Inc., the production outfit behind the show, offered her to be one of the hosts in the noontime show “Eat Bulaga.” By this time, Tintin changed her name to Toni and became a household name.
Amidst the fame and busy schedule, Toni makes special time for Church every Sunday. Before going to bed, she reads a chapter in the Bible. Being a devout Christian, Toni continues to develop a closer relationship with God, whom, as she said, is her source of strength. Though now famous and very much in demand, she still chooses to serve people in her hometown of San Isidro – a vocation she said that enables her to be God’s faithful servant.
At 23, she has accomplished quite a lot. It just goes to show that determination and hardwork pay off well in the end. Family and friends are proud of what she has done thus far. As to what she intends to do in the years to come, Toni said she plans to finish her education and set up her own business as well. And how about her blossoming career in showbiz? Toni said she would still pursue entertaining the audiences, especially her fans who have remained loyal and supportive of her. That, she says, is but her own simple way of showing her appreciation to all who have applauded and cheered for her every step of the way.
